H.E. Mr. László Havas, Permanent Representative and H.E. Mr. György Habsburg, Ambassador of Hungary to France both placed commemorative wreaths at the tomb in Père Lachaise (Paris) in honor of those who gave their lives for the freedom during the 1956 Revolution.
The tomb, inaugurated on 16 June, 1988, is designed to resemble a broken ship, symbolizing a nation in turmoil. A half-shattered wooden mast holds a bronze Hungarian flag, split along the iconic hole of 1956. Inscribed in Hungarian and French on the marble blocks, the memorial reads:
"May this French soil serve as a symbolic resting place for Imre Nagy, Géza Losonczy, Pál Maléter, József Szilágyi, Miklós Gimes, and all those executed after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, who have no graves in their own homeland."
