On November 6th, as part of the Hungarian EU Presidency and based on its priorities, the Hungarian Permanent Delegation, in collaboration with the OECD Economics Department, hosted the workshop "Boosting Competitiveness: Major Challenges and Key Drivers" at the OECD headquarters. This event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from OECD and non-OECD countries to tackle critical aspects of sustainable economic growth.
The workshop featured insightful presentations from Alvaro Pereira, OECD Chief Economist; Márton Bókay, Deputy State Secretary from the Ministry for National Economy; Patrik Kovács, from BIAC and Paolo Pasimeni, Deputy Chief Economist from DG GROW. Key discussions centered on addressing the challenges of long-term competitiveness, the importance of the green and digital transitions, the essential role of small and medium-sized enterprises, and the impact of international collaboration.
The presentations followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Australia, Chile, Estonia, Korea, Switzerland, and Romania. The panel offered a diverse, global perspective on shared challenges and best practices for enhancing competitiveness and productivity.
Key takeaways from the event highlighted the need to develop a comprehensive industrial strategy, strengthen support for SMEs, and foster international cooperation to drive resilience and productivity across borders.
