The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other partner organizations have organized the XI. World Science Forum (WSF) in Budapest from 20 to 23 November 2024. The participants of the conference discussed the main topic of „The science and policy interface at a time of global transformations”.

On this occasion, leading actors of the international scientific life gathered in Budapest and adopted a declaration as a result of this prestigious meeting. Mr. Xing Qu, UNESCO's Deputy Director-General (DDG) and Ms. Lidia Brito, UNESCO's Assistant Director-General (ADG) responsible for the natural science sector visited the Hungarian capital for the WSF. Ms. Brito delivered the message of Audrey Azulay, UNESCO's Director-General to the participants of the Forum and a lecture at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy on the interlinkages between science and diplomacy which are key factors in prevention and mitigation of current global challenges.

H.E. Mr. Balázs Hankó, the Hungarian minister of culture and innovation, received the leading UNESCO officials who arrived to Budapest on the occasion of the WSF in his office. The visit of high-ranking UNESCO officials highlighted the importance of international dialogue and cooperation in the field of science politics, science diplomacy, and also provided opportunities to review the topic of Hungary's contribution to UNESCO's mission and the global scientific program.
