H.E. László Havas, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Hungary to UNESCO and OECD, was received on a courtesy visit by Mr. Eduard Firmin Matoko, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations (ADG/PAX).
During their meeting, they discussed the importance of Priority Africa, one of UNESCO’s key strategic focuses aimed at fostering sustainable development, education, cultural preservation, and scientific cooperation across the African continent. As a pillar of UNESCO’s mission, Priority Africa seeks to strengthen partnerships, enhance knowledge sharing, and support capacity-building efforts that contribute to the region’s growth and resilience.
Ambassador Havas reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to international cooperation and emphasized the significance of Africa in Hungary’s foreign policy, particularly within the framework of the “Opening to the South” strategy. The discussion highlighted potential areas of collaboration including education, water management, and cultural heritage preservation.
Both sides expressed their dedication to strengthening UNESCO’s efforts in Africa and fostering deeper ties between Hungary and the continent in areas of mutual interest.
